Inside the top circle is a descending dove, emphasizing the coming down of the Holy Spirit upon the faithful.
Pictured in the top medallion is the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon Our Blessed Mother and the Apostles. It is the birthday of the Church. Rays dispensing nine flames or tongues of fire, emanate out from the Holy Spirit. The fire indicates nine fruits of the Spirit. The fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit are patterns of behavior, attributes which sharpen the image of God in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, reliability, gentleness and self-control.
Inside the next circle is an equilateral triangle with a trefoil, symbol for the unchanging, eternal Triune God. God the Father is the Creator, revealed by Jesus Christ, and operating in humanity as Holy Spirit.
Pictured in the middle medallion is the Ascension. Christ rises into the clouds. Golden rays unite heaven and earth. His disciples gape, amazed but not dismayed; for Christ’s hands, still bearing the marks of the nails, are extended in promise of a future coming. The Ascension is witnessed by the Mother of God and the Apostles, who represent the role of the Church as continuing witness to this event.
Inside the next circle is an ascending dove, a graphic illustration of the Spirit soaring heavenward.
Pictured in the bottom medallion is the discovery of the empty sepulchre by the three women bringing myrrh, mute evidence of the Resurrection. Christ is not in the tomb. Only His winding cloth remains. Seated at the entrance is an angel who tells them: “Christ is risen!”
Inside the bottom circle is a butterfly, a vivid example of a changed body. Christ’s glorified body was so changed that His family and friends did not recognize Him at first.
